Selection Procedure for Ph.D Admission 2025

Candidates who have qualified for fellowship / scholarship in UGC-NET/ UGC- CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests:
Candidates shall be exempted from St. Xavier’s University Research Entrance Test (XU-RET) conducted by the University but have to appear in the interview on the subject to be conducted by the respective Departmental Research Committee (DRC).

Candidates who have not qualified for fellowship / scholarship in UGC-NET/ UGC- CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests:

The candidate will have to appear in the St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata Research Entrance Test (XURET). The duration of the XU-RET will be of two hours and will comprise of 50 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) of 2 marks each with a total of 100 marks for all Ph.D. programmes. Test will have two sections (as mentioned below) 50 marks (25 questions) for each.
There will be no negative marking.

The Research Entrance Test will be followed by an interview on the subject concerned. Candidates who score 50% or more marks in XU-RET will be eligible to appear for the Interview.

Mode of XU-RET:
St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata Research Entrance Test (XU-RET) will be held in offline mode, and the candidate will be required to come to the University campus for the test.
No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the XU-RET.
Mode of Interview:
Interview will be held physically, and the candidate will be required to come to the University Campus.
No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the Interview.
Note: Applicants who are currently employed must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their current employer in the specified format during the document verification for admission.
No modifications / changes in the NOC format will be accepted.
