Applications are invited for admission to the Department of Applied Psychology, University of Calcutta (UCSTA, 92, Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road, Kolkata-700009) for Ph.D. course and subsequent research work for obtaining the Ph.D. degree in Applied Psychology, following the Regulation for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy, 2016, University of Calcutta (www.caluniv.ac.in).
Eligible candidates who wish to pursue research work in the Department should apply in the prescribed application form attached by paying Rs.100.00. For payment please refer to the following steps:-
To make the payment in offline mode, please pay Rs. 100.00 through a challan (obtainable from Cash Counter at the College Street Campus of the University of Calcutta).
Duly filled-in application form along with scanned self-attested photocopies of certificates and mark sheets of Master’s degree, NET/SET/M.Phil (if applicable), age proof certificate, caste certificate (if applicable), and copy of Aadhar card and copy of SBI payment receipt /offline challan receipt must reach the office (physically or by post) of the Head of the Department within Wednesday, 30/April/2025.
M.A. / M.Sc. In Applied Psychology / Psychology
The eligible candidates will have to appear in a written examination of 2:30 hours, to be held in the Department on Wednesday, 07/May/2025 (12.00 Noon to 2.30 PM) in offline mode.
The syllabus of this examination is the UGC NET (Paper II and III) on Psychology and existing syllabus of M.A./M.Sc. in Applied Psychology, University of Calcutta.
The results of the written test will be published not later than Wednesday, 14/May/2025, and communicated to the candidates. The successful candidates will be called for an interview on Monday, 19/May/2025. The candidates finally selected on the basis of the interview will be enrolled as Probationary Ph.D. student of this Department.
The candidates who have already cleared UGC (JRF) examination /NET/SET/SLET /Teacher Fellowship or equivalent examinations or passed the M.Phil. in Psychology or equivalent examinations need not appear for the written examination. They can appear directly for the interview but they need to submit their application forms for admission within stipulated date i.e. 30/April/2025.
At present maximum 6 students (Unreserved – 3, SC -2, OBC B – 1) will be taken.
The written examination will be of 100 marks. For the written examination, the examinees will have to write a research proposal of 75 marks using concepts/keywords provided at the time of the examination. Maximum word limit for the proposal will be 1000 words. They will also have to answer one question within 400 words (out of five alternatives) of 25 marks. Answers must be in English.
