Minimum Eligibility Criteria for 4-year Honours Programmes |
General Criteria A candidate who has passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) or its equivalent examination is eligible to seek admission to the first Semester of the Four-year (eight semesters) B.A. / B.Sc. / B.Com. / BBA (Honours) Courses provided he/ she has also passed in English, the full marks not being less than 100 and fulfils the conditions given below. |
No candidate shall be allowed admission after a lapse of over three years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination or discontinuation of recognised regular course of studies after passing the previous qualifying examination. The year of admission shall not be considered while calculating three years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination, i.e., a candidate should have passed the previous qualifying examination not before March 2018. |
Candidates who have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination or its equivalent from CBSE, CISCE (ISC), WBCHSE (WB Board) and National Institute of Open Schooling, need not submit the Migration Certificate for registration under the University of Calcutta. |
Candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe community (Applicable for Applicants having valid certificates issued by the state of West Bengal only) taking up honours course must have a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate or 40% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination, as the case may be . |
Aggregate marks shall be calculated by adding the marks in top-four subjects in order of marks secured by a candidate. However, marks in compulsory Environmental Education/ Studies shall not be considered for calculation of aggregate marks. If the subject “Environmental Science” is studied as an elective subject of 100 marks, it may be taken into account to determine the aggregate marks. |

B.Com. (Honours) |
A candidate taking up honours course in a subject must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate (Best of 4 subjects) and 45% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination. OR 55% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination. Related Subjects (any one) : Accountancy/ Mathematics/ Economics/ Commerce/ Business Studies/ Commercial Law & preliminaries of Auditing/ Costing & Taxation/ Computer Applications/ Informatics Practices/ Entrepreneurship. |
B.B.A (Honours) |
A candidate taking up honours course in BBA must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate (Best of 4 subjects) and 45% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination. OR 55% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination. Note: If the candidate has not studied the subject in class XII, he / she need to achieve 50% marks in aggregate in order to apply for B.B.A. (H). Related Subjects (any one) : Commerce, Accountancy, Business Economics including, Business Management, Business Mathematics, Business Organization, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Business Studies, Office & Secretarial Practices, Human Rights and Practices, Public Related, Data Base Management, Financial Accounting, Elements of cost Accounts, Auditing, Book Keeping courses, Law, Business law, Cost-Accounting, Principles of Management, Taxation, and other Science and Humanities and vocational subjects following (10+2) system. |
B.A (Honours) |
A candidate taking up Honours course in a subject must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate and 45% marks in the Honours or related subject at the previous qualifying examination. OR 55% marks in the Honours or related subject at the previous qualifying examination. Please note: B.A. Sociology (H) is not available for candidates from the Commerce stream. |
B.Sc. (Honours) | |
B.Sc. Economics (H) |
Candidates must have 55% in Economics + PASS marks in Mathematics / Applied Mathematics. OR 45% marks in Economics + 50% marks in BO4 + PASS marks in Mathematics / Applied Mathematics. Please Note: If the candidate hasn’t studied Economics in Class XII, he/she needs to achieve the above marks in Mathematics/Applied mathematics. |
B.Sc. Mathematics (H) | Must have 55% in Mathematics. OR 45% marks in Mathematics + 50% marks in BO4. Please Note: Candidate must have pass marks in Chemistry / Physics/ Computer Science in order to take Mathematics Hons. |
B.Sc. Computer Science (H) | Must have 55% in Computer Science + PASS marks in Mathematics. OR 45% marks in Computer Science + 50% marks in BO4 + PASS marks in Mathematics. Please Note: If the candidate hasn’t studied Computer Sc. in Class XII, he/she needs to achieve the above-mentioned marks Physics / Statistics. |
B.Sc. Physics (H) | Must have 55% in Physics + PASS marks in Mathematics. OR 45% marks in Physics + 50% marks in BO4 + PASS marks in Mathematics. |
B.Sc. Chemistry (H) | Must have 55% in Chemistry + PASS marks in Mathematics and Physics. OR 45% marks in Chemistry + 50% marks in BO4 + PASS marks in Mathematics and Physics. |
B.Sc. Electronics (H) | Must have 55% in Physics / Electronics + PASS marks in Mathematics. OR 45% marks in Physics / Electronics + 50% marks in BO4 + PASS marks in Mathematics. |
Note: Business Mathematics & Applied Mathematics is not considered as substitute for Mathematics and hence will not be eligible for B.Sc. courses except B.Sc. Economics (H). |
