JEE Main 2025 Session 2 Exam Dates Announced: Partial Clash With CBSE Class 12 Board Exams

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has scheduled the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025 Session 2 on April 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, and 9. While the exam does not coincide with core science subjects, some CBSE Class 12 board exams, including language papers, home science, and psychology, overlap with these dates.

According to the CBSE Class 12 exam schedule, multiple regional language exams such as Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Odia, Assamese, and Kannada will take place on April 2. Home Science and Psychology exams are set for April 3 and 4, from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM.

CBSE’s Consideration of Entrance Exams in Scheduling

CBSE has stated that it factored in major entrance exams while planning the board exam timetable to minimize conflicts. "The dates of entrance examinations relevant to Class 12 students were considered, and efforts were made to complete board exams before these tests," CBSE mentioned while releasing the 2025 date sheet.

JEE Main is a gateway for admission into premier engineering institutes like NITs, IITs, and other technical universities. The exam is conducted in two sessions—January and April. The January session saw 13.11 lakh candidates registering for Paper 1 (BE/BTech).

For the 2025 academic year, over 17.88 lakh students are appearing for CBSE Class 12 board exams, covering 120 subjects. The exams are set to conclude on April 4, just before JEE Main’s second session.

CBSE Plans Two-Tier Exam System for Science and Social Science

In a significant development, CBSE is exploring the introduction of two levels—Standard and Advanced—for Science and Social Science subjects in Classes 9 and 10, akin to the existing tiered system for Mathematics in Class 10. While the Standard level will focus on core concepts, the Advanced level will provide deeper insights and promote critical thinking.

Officials from CBSE and the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) have indicated that new textbooks incorporating the advanced syllabus will be introduced for the 2026-27 academic session.
