The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has unveiled the syllabus for secondary and senior secondary classes (9, 10, 11, and 12) for the academic year 2025-26.
Students, parents, and teachers can access the detailed syllabi for Classes 9, 10, 11, and 12 on the official academic website, cbseacademic.nic.in.
According to Dr. Praggya M Singh, Director (Academics), the curriculum outlines comprehensive guidelines regarding academic content, examination syllabi, learning outcomes, pedagogical practices, and assessment frameworks for classes 9 to 12.
Dr. Singh emphasized that schools must strictly follow the curriculum directives mentioned at the beginning of the document. She stated that subjects should be taught in accordance with the prescribed syllabus, incorporating experiential learning, competency-based assessments, and interdisciplinary approaches to foster students' conceptual understanding and practical application.
The CBSE has encouraged schools to adopt contextualized and flexible teaching strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students, as recommended in the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2023.
Furthermore, schools are advised to focus on project-based learning, inquiry-driven approaches, and technology-integrated education to make learning more engaging and effective.
"Collaborative lesson planning should also be prioritized to ensure that teaching strategies remain innovative, inclusive, and future-focused," added Dr. Singh.
Last month, CBSE proposed a draft scheme to conduct Class 10 board exams twice a year starting from 2026. If implemented, this change will significantly alter the current examination structure. The examination fee will be increased and collected when schools submit the Lists of Candidates (LOCs) for board examinations.
After the first exam, the board will not issue a passing document. Students who do not take the second examination can use the performance details available on DigiLocker for admission to Class 11. Pass certificates will be issued only after the results of the second exam are announced.
Despite having two theory exams, there will be only one practical exam or internal assessment. Students who do not pass the first exam may be provisionally admitted to Class 12, with their admission confirmed based on their performance in the second examination.
