Admission to the Ph.D. Programme, 2017

Applications are invited for 19 vacancies* for Ph.D. registration in the Department of Biochemistry for the year 2017-2018, from eligible Life Sciences, Chemical Sciences and Physical Sciences post graduate students who would be placed under the supervision of the following Principal Investigators for the pursuance of their Ph.D. degree. Kindly note that RET qualification does not ensure Research Fellowship.

Candidates are requested to download the application format from the University website (Admission notification) or collect the same from the office of the Department of Biochemistry and submit the filled-in application at the office of Department of Biochemistry, CU after paying Rs. 100/- in cash or demand draft to the cash counter of the University within 28th July, 2017.

The eligibility of the candidate will be as per UGC rules. The eligible candidates will have to appear in a written MCQ examination of 1 hour duration to be held on 23rd August, 2017 at 12:00 Noon in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Calcutta, 35, Ballygunge Circular Road, Kolkata – 700 019.

Candidates securing 50% marks (as per UGC rules) will be directed to appear in front of an interview board on 23rd August, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. The list of the selected candidates for interview will be displayed on the departmental Notice Board. The students who have cleared UGC/CSIR (JRF) Examinations / NET / SET / SLET / GATE or have obtained DST INSPIRE Fellowship / Teacher fellowship or have passed equivalent examinations or passed the M.Phil. / M.Tech. / M.D. / M.E. / M.Pharm. or equivalent examination shall not be required to appear at the written admission test but they have to appear at the interview.

Declaration of names of finally selected candidates will be notified later (Subject to approval by the Honorable Vice Chancellor)

* Reservation in admission shall strictly abide by the West Bengal State Higher Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Rules, 2013.
