Applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D programme in Environmental Science for the commencing academic 2017. Candidates willing to pursue research work leading to the Ph.D (Sc.) degree in Environmental Science, University of Calcutta, should apply in the prescribed format attached herewith and submit to the office of the Department of Environmental Science, (Room No- 863, 7th Floor, 35 Ballygunge Circular Road, Kolkata-700019) by 14th December, 2016. The candidate has to pay Rs. 100/- (in cash only) through a challan available from the University Cash Counter at the College Street / Hazra Campus, CU. A photocopy of the challan of RET examination fee deposited by the candidate must be attached with the application form.

Those who have already applied against the earlier advertisement (last date of submission was 21st July, 2016) for RET examination in Environmental Science and have satisfied criteria as per this advertisement, need not to apply again. It must be noted that, their earlier applications shall come under the purview of University of Calcutta (Regulation for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy, Ph.D.), Regulations 2016.

• Eligibility Criteria :
  Candidates who are Masters in Environmental Science and allied subjects, from University of Calcutta or other Universities considered equivalent thereto are eligible. They should have Chemistry as a combination subject at the bachelor's level. Percentage at the Master's level should be at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed). For relaxation of marks and other details please refer to University of Calcutta (Regulation for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy, Ph.D.), Regulations 2016, which can be downloaded from University website (http://www.caluniv.ac.in).
• Selection Procedure :
  The admission procedure consists of a Research Eligibility Test (RET) followed by an interview for candidates successful in the same.
  
  The applicants who have cleared UGC/CSIR (JRF) examinations/ NET/ SET/ SLET/GATE or have obtained DST INSPIRE Fellowship/Teacher fellowship or have passed equivalent examinations or passed the MPhil/ MTech/ M.D/ ME/ MPharm or equivalent examination shall not be required to appear at the PhD entrance test.
• Application fee : Candidates need to pay Rs 100 for each application form.
• Examination :
  Examination will be for 50 marks (Multiple Choice based questions) of one hour duration and will be on the syllabus of M.Sc. in Environmental Science of University of Calcutta.
  
  NOTE:
  • Maximum 12 candidates will be selected for the year 2016. Final admission for PhD program will be subject to reservation rules as set by the Higher Education Department, Govt. of West Bengal vide Notification no. 07-Edn (U)/IU-89/13 dated 2nd January, 2014 [according to West Bengal State Higher Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act, 2013].
  • The candidate has to provide a Statement of Purpose (SoP) justifying its suitability into the Ph.D programme in Environmental Science at the time of interview together with other relevant documents.
  • Qualifying RET does neither ensure any research fellowship nor guarantee registration for the Ph.D. degree.
