Carmichael. The Rev. Jackson was given the charge of the school and was the first Rector of the School.
The School was, previously, owned, managed and controlled by the Diocese of Calcutta, Church of North India, Pakistan, Burma and Ceylon. With the formation of the Church of North India in 1970, the Diocese of Calcutta, CIPBC was merged with the Church of North India. Thus the school today is owned, managed and controlled by the Diocese of Calcutta, CNI as successor of CIPBC, the Founding Body. The Founders of the school were inspired by Christ’s words “Suffer little children to come unto me”. This may be seen on a plaque at the entrance of the building at 73, Serpentine Lane. The School started as a home for the poor Anglo-Indian girls. Later the Boys’ Home came into existence, and today, this large co-educational institution has about 1700 boys and girls.
The Boarding section of the school was closed down in the 1970s. The girls and boys of the boarding section were absorbed in Pratt Memorial School and St. Thomas’ Boys School, respectively.St. Paul’s Mission School is a large, modern, well-equipped co-educational school for children from nursery to class 12. The course of studies prepares children for the ICSE and ISC examinations conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, affiliated to the Inter-state Board for Anglo-Indian Education. The medium of instruction is English, Hindi and Bengali are taught as second and third languages.
The School imparts Christian values and virtues to all its students and caters mainly to the less affluent children of the locality in Sealdah. The Church has been playing a great role in promoting higher education through the school, shaping the Christian Character of the School and has produced young men and women to be worthy citizens of the country. At present the Diocese of Calcutta CNI is the Founder Body of this school. The school today is owned, managed and controlled by the Diocese of Calcutta, Church of North India, headed by the Rt. Rev. Ashoke Biswas, Bishop of Kolkata and the Chairman of the Board of Governors.
