Pandit Raghunath Murmu Smriti Mahavidyalaya is situated is an extremely rural area of Bankura district comprising of socially and economically backward people a large number of whome belong the Schedule Casts and Schedule Tribes category.

Pandit Raghunath Murmu Smriti Mahavidyalaya (commonly known as PRMS Mahavidyalaya) situated in Bankura district of West Bengal was established in the year 1986 as a co-educational institution by an order of the Government of West Bengal. It is affiliated to The University of Burdwan and is registered with UGC under section 2F and 12D of the UGC Act. The college obtained a Grade – B from NAAC in the year 2007.
The College is named after Pandit Raghunath Murmu who invented the ‘Alchiki Script’ for the Santali Language. The College is located at Baragari village near P. More. (50 km. away from Bankura Town) which is on the Bankura – Jhargram State Highway on the South – Western border of Bankura District. The College is situated in an ideal rural environment with nice natural beauty surrounded by ‘Shal Trees’ providing an ideal background for the promotion of education. The College has an unparallel role since its inception to impart Higher Education, including female as well as marginalized one to the Poor Rural Hamlets in the vast region of three Blocks-Sarenga, Simlapal and Raipur of Bankura District in West Bengal. For its very inception, the college has been on its glorious journey on the road to advancement of learning through various ups and downs. But the famous tradition of the College remains praise worthy and believe that it will remain so for tomorrows.
The faculty member have given their ardent and sincere effort to improve the standard of education in the different departments of the College. The staff of the College are trying heart and soul to cater to the needs of the students by paying due attention to their problems.
