Eligibility & Admission Procedure:
- JEE: Candidates seeking admission in the B.Tech courses are required to pass Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination of the Council of Higher Secondary Education, West Bengal, or any equivalent examination of recognized Board or University with 45% marks in PCM (40% for SC / ST) and qualify in the Joint Entrance Examination and get admitted through Online Web-based e-counselling to be conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB) under the purview of the Department of Higher Education ,Govt.of West Benga, AICTE, WBUT.
- AIEEE: Students qualifying in All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) may also be admitted as decided by the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal, AICTE, WBUT.
- LATERAL ENTRY: Diploma Holders in Engineering / Technology as well as B.Sc qualifying in West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination for lateral entry (WBJELET) are eligible for admission into the third semester (2nd year) of B.Tech. courses through Central Counseling by CSC (E&T) upto a maximum limit of 10% of the approved intake in each stream.
- OTHERS: Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination of the Council of Higher Secondary Education, West Bengal, or any equivalent examination of recognized Board or University with 45% marks in PCM (40% for SC / ST) are also eligible for admission.

Murshidabad, known all over the country as a renowned place of historical heritage and tradition still remains a backward agricultural district. To pull it out of the morass of despondent situation, the settling up of a Degree Engineering College of modern technology was the crying need to the people of this District. The concept remained as a distant dream till one person came forward to realize it with firm conviction and determination. Shri Nripen Chowdhury, Ex-Sabhadhipati, Murshidabad Zill Parisad, happens to be that person to whom this institute owes much for its onward progress and development. Murshidabad College of Engineering & Technology came into being through formal inauguration by Dr.Ashim Dasgupta, the then Hon'ble Minister-In-Charge, Finance, Govt. of West Bengal, on 8th August, 1998.The College was shifted to its own campus and it was formally opened on 4th August 2001, by Mr. Buddha Dev Bhattacharjee, the then Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal. The college is aided by the Govt. of West Bengal. Established by a voluntary Society, this non-commercial and self-financed college is on its glorious run under the competent guidance of a Governing Body . Mr.Dipak Kumar Roy is the Chairman of Society for MCET & HRD and Governing Body, MCET. The institute is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and affiliated to the West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT).
