ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION TO BACHELOR OF HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICINE & SURGERY [B.H.M.S.]
An applicant is eligible if:
- He/she is an Indian citizen by birth or by domicile (except for the foreign candidates nominated/recommended by Govt. of India.)
- He/she is not blind (including colour blind), deaf and/or dumb (as per the syllabus and curriculum to the course prescribed by Central Council of Homoeopathy and The West Bengal University of Health Sciences). Orthopedically challenged persons with 50 to 70% loco-motor disability involving the lower limbs only, can apply for the course.
- He/she has attained or will attain the age of 17 years but not crossed age of 25 years as on the 31st December, 2015. Those born on before 31st December, 1990 or after 1st January, 1999 will not be eligible to appear at All India Admission Test of session 2015-2016.
- He/she has passed the 12th class under the 10+2 scheme or equivalent from a statutory Board/Council/University such Statutory Board/Council/University is recognised by The West Bengal University of Health Sciences.
- Candidate must have passed 10+2 with requisite five subjects including English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. He/ She must have passed all the five subjects individually including English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Provided that He/she must have obtained a minimum of 50% (45% marks for SC & ST candidates) marks in aggregate in the subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. [In case of any dispute about equivalence, the matter will be decided by prior reference to University and/or appropriate authority. Any fees / charges in this regard will not be borne by the Institute.]
NOTES
A candidate who has failed in any subject(s) in the 12th class under 10+2 scheme or equivalent examination at first attempt and has appeared and passed the aforesaid subject(s) at the second or subsequent attempt shall be allotted only the minimum number of marks required to pass in the aforesaid subject(s) for the purpose of calculating the aggregate and the total percentage of marks.
- A candidate who originally passed the qualifying examination without appearing in any one or more of the essential subjects but appeared and passed in the aforesaid subject(s) at a subsequent examination, shall be allotted the marks actually secured in the aforesaid subject(s) for the purpose of calculating the aggregate and the total percentage of marks.
- Candidates who have appeared at the qualifying examination in the current year are also eligible to apply and appear in the Admission Test. Their candidature will be taken into consideration provided that the result of the qualifying examination is published before the notified last date of admission and they have secured the required percentage of marks and passed all five subjects, substantiated by production of documentary proof.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION TO BACHELOR OF HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICINE & SURGERY [B.H.M.S.]
- Admission to M.D. (Hom.) Course at NIH is subjected to acceptance of Rules and Regulations mentioned by the Institute.
- The candidates, after being qualified in the All India Entrance Examination conducted by “The West Bengal University of Health Sciences”, Kolkata whose names are forwarded by the said University, after counselling, are required to report to the Director, National Institute of Homoeopathy, Kolkata.
- The Director, National Institute of Homoeopathy, Kolkata, shall verify the correctness of documents. On his satisfaction he shall direct the candidates to deposit all required fees etc., immediately.
- The original certificates submitted shall not be returned to the candidates till the course is completed.
- Candidates selected to various courses shall be whole time students. Service holders will have to apply for study leave and are required to produce the orders wherein such leave has been sanctioned to them, from the competent authority within three months of joining the course.
- Physically Challenged candidates are not eligible for the course. The definition of “Physically challenged” will be in pursuance of the correspondence of both Medical Council of India as well as Central Council of Homoeopathy as under:
- Disability between 50% to 70% i.e. locomotor disability of lower limbs vide letter No. MCI-34(1)(Gen.)/2009-Med./2569 dated 21-04-2009
- Blind (including colour blind), deaf and/or dumb candidates shall not be allowed for admission in the course; vide Homoeopathy (Degree Course) B.H.M.S. Regulations (as amended up to 17-06-2005) Part – III.

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF HOMOEOPATHY was established on 10th December, 1975, in Kolkata, as a Central Government Autonomous Organisation of national importance, under the Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India. All Central Government rules with regard to service matter are applicable at the NIH mutatis mutandis. The Institute has comprehensive facilities for teaching, research and patient care.
The Institute , affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences, presently conducts the degree course in Homoeopathy viz Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery [B.H.M.S.] since 1987 and Post - Graduate course i.e. Doctor of Medicine in Homoeopathy [M.D.(Hom.)] in six subjects viz Organon of Medicine, Repertory, Materia Medica,Practice of Medicine, Paediatrics and Homoeopathic Pharmacy since 1998-99 onwards.
Today it consists of an Undergraduate and Postgraduate sections with an auditorium of 800 seating capacity, a hospital having an outpatient dept. and a 100 bedded inpatients dept. along with investigative facilities.
The Institute is functioning in its own campus measuring about 16 acres of land at Block - GE, Sector - III, Salt Lake, Kolkata - 700 106, with a total floor space of about 1.8 lakh square metres with effect from 11.08.1986.
A 250 - seated Boys Hostel, a 70 - seated Girls Hostel and a Guest House are also available in the same campus. We also have a Staff Quarters on a plot of land measuring about 9 acres close to the Institute campus within Salt Lake (Block JC).
