Admission Eligibility Criteria for M.A. / M.Sc. Courses for 2016-2017
Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility Criteria (M.Sc. in Zoology, 2016)
- Students who had passed Three years Honours Examination in 2016 from Calcutta University with minimum 55% marks in Honours subject will be eligible for applying in General category.
- Students passed from Universities other than the University of Calcutta in the year 2016 securing minimum 60% marks in the Honours subject will be eligible to apply in General category.
- Criteria for Physically challenged candidates is same as General category.
- For SC/ ST/ OBC-A/OBC-B candidates passing from the University of Calcutta or from Other Universities of West Bengal with a minimum of 45% marks in Honours Subject will be eligible for applying.
- For admission to this courses an SC/ST/PC candidates getting admission should have obtained in the previous examination, qualifying marks not lower by more than 25% of marks obtained by the last candidate of the General category.
- For admission to this courses an OBC A/OBC B candidates getting admission should have obtained in the previous examination, qualifying marks not lower by more than 10% of marks obtained by the last candidate of the General category.
- 60% of the approved seats will be filled up directly on the basis of merit from Calcutta University students in General, PC, SC, ST , OBC-A (one seat) and OBC-B (one seat) categories.
- Rest 40% seats will be filled up from the candidates selected through Admission test in General, SC and ST categories.
- The Admission Test (MCQ type) will be of one hour duration having full marks 100 containing 50 questions, each having 2 marks (for 4 incorrect attempts and / or multiple attempts 1 mark will be deducted). Candidates who have applied for 60% category but have not been selected in the merit list will have to sit for the Admission test.
- In case of tie, University Honours marks followed by General/Pass Paper marks will be considered.
- Total approved seat for M. Sc. in Zoology is 28 (17 general + 6 SC+ 2 ST + 1 PC+ 1 OBC-A + 1 OBC-B). If there is no PC applicant for 60% category the seat will be filled up from General candidates from 60% category.
- 60% of 17 General category seats i.e., 10 seats and 1 seat from PC candidates are for direct admission from the General category merit list of CU students.
- 40% of 17 General category seats i.e., 7 seats (no quota for PC) will be filled up on the basis of the marks obtained in the Admission Test.
- Similarly 60% of 6 SC category seats i.e., 4 seats are for direct admission from the merit list of CU students for SC category and remaining (40% of 6 seats) i.e., 2 seats will be filled up on the basis of the marks obtained in the Admission Test.
- For ST Categories 1 seat will be filled up directly from the merit list (60% category) and remaining 1 seat will be filled up on the basis of the marks obtained in the Admission Test.
- Candidates from CU who have applied for 60% category but whose name has not been enlisted in the merit list will have to sit for the Admission Test.
- If a student cancels his/her admission, the vacancy will be filled up from the waiting list of respective categories.
Eligibility Criteria (M.A. in English, 2016)
- Students who had passed Honours Examination in 2016 from Calcutta University with minimum 50% marks in Honours subject will be eligible to apply in General category.
- Students passed from Universities other than the Calcutta University in the year 2016 securing minimum 50% marks in the Honours subject and passed Examination in 2015 will be eligible to apply in General category.
- Criteria for Physically challenged candidates is same as General category.
- For SC/ ST /OBC A/OBC B candidates who have passed from the University of Calcutta or from Other Universities with a minimum of 45% marks in Honours Subject will be eligible to apply.
- For admission to this courses an SC/ST/PC candidates getting admission should have obtained in the previous examination, qualifying marks not lower by more than 25% of marks obtained by the last candidate of the General category.
- For admission to this courses an OBC A / OBC B candidates getting admission should have obtained in the previous examination, qualifying marks not lower by more than 10% of marks obtained by the last candidate of the General category.
- 60% of the approved seats will be filled up directly on the basis of merit from Calcutta University students in General, PC, SC and ST, OBC-A (one seat) and OBC-B (one seat) categories.
- Rest 40% seats will be filled up from General, SC, ST and OBC A categories selected through Admission test.
- The Admission Test will be of one hour duration having full marks 100 containing 30 MCQ questions, each having 2 marks (for 4 incorrect attempts and/or multiple attempts 1 mark will be deducted) and a short essay (in 400 words) of 40 marks. Candidates who have applied for 60% category but have not been selected in the merit list will have to sit for the Admission test.
- In case of a tie, University Honours marks followed by marks obtained in Pass/General papers will be considered.
- Total approved seat for M. A. in English is 24 (14 General + 5 SC+ 1 ST + 1 PC + 2 OBC A + 1 OBC B). If there is no PC applicant for 60% category the seat will be filled up from General category candidates from 60% category.
- 60% of 14 General category seats (i.e., 08 seats) and 1 seat from PC candidates are for direct admission from the General category merit list of CU students.
- 40% of 14 General category seats (i.e., 06 seats) will be filled up on the basis of the marks obtained in the Admission Test.
- Similarly 60% of 5 SC category seats (i.e., 03 seats) are for direct admission from the merit list of CU students for SC category and remaining 2 seats (40% category) will be filled up on the basis of the sum of marks obtained in the Admission Test.
- For ST Category, 1 seat will be filled up directly from the merit list of CU students. If there is no applicant in 60% category the seat will be filled up from the merit list of 40% category.
- 1 seat each of OBC A and OBC B categories are for direct admission in the 60% category and 1 seat of OBC A will be filled up from 40% Category selected through Admission Test. The candidates selected in the merit list of 60% category need not to appear in the Admission Test.
- If a student cancels his/her admission, the vacancy will be filled up from the waiting list of the respective categories.

- Students who had passed Honours Examination in 2016 from the University of Calcutta or from other Universities with minimum 45% marks in Honours subject are eligible to apply for General, Physically Challenged (PC), SC, ST, OBC A and OBC B categories.
- For admission to this courses an SC/ST/PC candidates getting admission should have obtained in the previous examination, qualifying marks not lower by more than 25% of marks obtained by the last candidate of the General category.
- For admission to this courses an OBC A/OBC B candidates getting admission should have obtained in the previous examination, qualifying marks not lower by more than 10 % of marks obtained by the last candidate of the General category.

- 60% of 20 General category seats (i.e., 12 seats) and 1 seat from Physically Challenged candidates are for direct admission from the General category merit list of CU students.
- 40% of 20 General category seats (i.e. 8 seats ) will be filled up on the basis of the sum of marks obtained in the Admission Test.
- 5 SC category seats (60% category) are for direct admission from the merit list of CU students for SC category and remaining 3 seats ( 40% Category) will be filled up on the basis of the sum of marks obtained in the Admission Test.
- For ST Categories 1 seat will be filled up directly from the merit list and remaining 1 seat will be filled up on the basis of the sum of marks obtained in the Admission Test.
- 1 seat each of OBC A and OBC B categories are for direct admission in the 60% category and 1 seat each of OBC A and OBC B will be filled up from 40% Category selected through Admission test.
- Candidates from CU who have applied for 60% category but have not been selected in the merit list will have to sit for the Admission test. The candidates selected in the CU merit list in the 60% category need not appear in the Admission Test.
- If a student cancels his/her admission, the vacancy will be filled up from the waiting list of respective category.
