In the real of formal education, the establishment of a college particularly in a typical area in a country like India is a remarkable achievement. The establishment of Khandra College in the Andal Ukhra Coal Belt of West Bengal is the inevitable outcome of the unitiring effort of the local people led by late Amalendu Bakshi (Shankar Bakshi), who come forward in this mission. His mother Late Amiyabala Bakshi donated land which may be considered as the first step in the process of establishing college. E.C.L. extended the hand of cooperation in terms of donating land and a sum of Rs. 5 Lakhs. Dr. Ramaranjan Mukherjee, the then Vice-Chancellor of the University of Burdwan helped wholeheartedly for the establishment of this college. Prof. Sambhu Charan Ghosh, the then Honourable Minister of Higher Education, Govt. of West Bengal graced the inauguration of the College on the 15th day of December 1981. Starting initially in Khandra High School building with a handful of students after the introduction of B.A. (Pass Course), the college has now a large building of its own and more than one thousand five hundred students after introduction of B.Com (Pass) in 1985 By Virtue of illustrious results in the Degree Final Examination, the college has got a definite place in the academic map of West Bengal.

The heculean initiative & solid contribution of Dr. Anshu Bhattacharyya, the former Principal of the college in its development, deserve to be noted with honour and respect.
The college authority express notes of appreciation to E.C.L. authority, A.D.D.A., D.S.P., A.S.P., D.N.N.A., Khandra Gram Panchayat, Andal Panchayat Samity, Burdwan Zila Parisad and Local Patronisers of education for their benevolence. The college has also got grants from the U.G.C. and the Govt. of West Bengal. Thanks to the benign Govt. of West Bengal and The University of Burdwan. Honours courses of studies in Bengali, History, Political Science, English and Accountancy have been introduced in our college since 1996. In the years to come, there is no doubt in the fact that the college has prospect to flourish as one of the leading colleges in West Bengal.
