
Chitta Mahato Memorial College is a rural, govt-aided undergraduate college affiliated to Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University. It is a newly established college that begun functioning from September 2010. Situated in the tribal belt of Jargo, 15 kms from Jhalda and 62 kms from the District headquarter, Purulia, it is almost at the border of West Bengal and Jharkhand, surrounded by the minor ranges of the Ayodhya Hills. The college is located at the foot of such a hill and affords a picturesque view of stretching farms and quaint hamlets all around. It is the only college within a radius of 15 kms with a number of primary and high schools in the area acting as feeders to the college. At present the college offers courses of study in five subjects, such as Bengali, English, History, Political Science and Sanskrit with Honours in the first three subjects only.
