Admissions to B.A. (Hons) / B.Sc. (Hons) for 2016-2017


Admission 2016

Application fee of Rs. 130/- (including Bank charges for each Honours subject) is to be deposited in any Branch of INDIAN BANK
from 18.05.2016 to 31.05.2016 (during Banking Hours)


Validity of Application is subject to payment of Application Fee within the stipulated date.
The application fee must be diposited within 10 days from the submission of the Application Form or within the last date which is 31.05.2016, whichever is earlier.

Admission to the college is granted on the understanding that the student undertakes to conform in all respects to the rules and discipline of the college.

  • A candidate may apply for a maximum of three honours subjects. Separate applications must be submitted for each honours subject.
  • The college does not offer any three years General Course.
  • SC / ST / OBC-A (non-creamy layer) / OBC-B (non-creamy layer) candidates from West Bengal are only eligible for reserved seats.
  • Admission to any course of the college is provisional, subject to the final approval of the University of Calcutta.
  • In exercise of the power conferred by clause (g) of sub-section (1) of section 26 of the University Grant Commission Act, 1956, “UGC Registration on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Education Institutions, 2009”, an anti-ragging cell shall be constituted in 2013.
  • There is no hostel facility in the college.
  • Admission Test will be held for Bengali Honours and English Honours courses. Admission Test in each subject will be of 50 marks and 1 hour duration.
  • A broad syllabus of Admission Test papers will be as follows :
    • BENGALI (Hons.) :
      History of Bengali Literature, Contemporary Bengali Literature and Grammar (10+2 level).
    • ENGLISH (Hons.) :
      Grammar, Composition, Acquaintances with the Literary Texts (10+2 level).
  • Test Venue : College Premises.
  • Schedule of Admission Test : 4th June, 2016.
  • Examination Time :
    • BENGALI (Hons.) : 2:30 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. (Reporting Time - 2:00 P.M.)
    • ENGLISH (Hons.) : 12:00 Noon to 1:00 P.M. (Reporting Time - 11:30 A.M.)
  • Printout of Admit Card is to be taken along with printout of the form. Please follow instructions given in the Admit Card.
  • Candidates will not be allowed to appear for the Admission test without Admit Card, original receipt copy of Bank Challan, original Admit Card of Higher Secondary or equivalent examination and original Photo Identity proof.
  • Admission will be made strictly in order of merit.

Reservation of Seats
  • Number of Reserved seats for Scheduled Caste (22%), Scheduled Tribe (6%), OBC-A & OBC-B are shown againt each Honours subject (as per Govt. norms)
  • For Physically Handicapped candidates 3% of seats are reserved in each category.
  • Due weightage will be given to state level position holders and national level participants in sports as per New Sports Policy, 2015 of the Govt. of West Bengal subject to fulfillment of minimum eligibility criteria.
    After online submission a print out of the Application Form along with supporting documents is to be submitted to the College Office within 06.06.2016 by applicants under this category.
  • Due weightage will be given to the UGC communication (No. F. Admin. - 1/2014-15 (ERO) dated January 20, 2016) regarding admission of students from Jammu and Kashmir subject to fulfillment of minimum eligibility criteria.
    After online submission a print out of the Application Form along with supporting documents is to be submitted to the College Office within 06.06.2016 by applicants under this category.

Criteria for Admission to B.A./ B.Sc. Honours Courses
  • A candidate who has passed the Higher Secondary or its equivalent Examination (on 2016 or, 2015) is eligible for admission to the B.A. / B.Sc. (Honours) courses.
  • Candidates passed in Vocational Stream are not eligible to apply Honours Course.
  • Candidates must have passed in English (at least 100 marks paper) in the previous qualifying examination.
  • Candidates must secure pass marks in the General Subjects opted for (applicable to candidates who had the subjects at (10+2) level).
  • Aggregate marks shall be calculated by adding the marks of the BEST FOUR subjects (at least 100 marks paper). Marks in compulsory Environmental Education / Studies will not be taken into account for calculation of Aggregate marks.
  • Admission will be conducted strictly on the basis of merit. Merit list will be prepared based on INDEX MARK for all categories of students.
  • For admission a SC/ST candidate must secure not less than 25% and an OBC candidate must secure not less than 10% of index mark of the last admitted candidate in General category in each Honours subject.

A candidate must have passed in English (at least 100 marks paper) to apply for B.A / B.Sc. (Honours) Course.
