B.A. & B.Sc. Eligibility Criteria 2016
- A candidate taking up Honours course in a subject must have obtained:
- A minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate and 45% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination
Or, - 55% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination
Or, - 50% marks in the aggregate when the candidate has not studied the subject in his/her previous qualifying examination.
- A minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate and 45% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination
- A candidate must obtain at least 30% marks in the subjects chosen for General course.
- Students belonging to the Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe Community taking up Honours course must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate or 40% marks in the subject or related subjects at the previous qualifying examination, as the case may be.
- For the B.A/B.Sc (Honours/General) course of studies a candidate is required to choose his/her Honours and two/three elective subjects, as the case may be.
- A candidate shall be allowed to take up the subject(s) under heading “A†if he/she had passed the subject(s) under heading “B†at the previous qualifying examination :

- Economics : A candidates shall be allowed to take up Honours in Economics if he/she has passed in Mathematics at H.S Examination (10+2) conducted by the West Bengal Council of H.S Education or its equivalent examination in Mathematics/ Business Mathematics . Student who have passed Business Economics including Business Mathematics in the H.S. (10+2) level from the West Bengal Council of H.S Education are also eligible for admission in the Honours Course in Economics.
- Mathematics: A candidates shall be allowed to take up Honours in Mathematics if he/she has passed in Mathematics at the previous qualifying examination. A candidate who has passed in Business Mathematics is not eligible for the admission to the Mathematics Honours Course.
- Chemistry: A candidates shall be allowed to take up Honours in Chemistry if he/she has passed in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at the previous qualifying examination.
- Food & Nutrition: A candidate shall be allowed to take up Honours in Food & Nutrition if he/she has passed in Biology/Nutrition and Chemistry at the previous qualifying examination and to take up Chemistry as one of the elective subjects.
- Zoology: The subject Biology / Bio-Technology be treated as related subject.
- Philosophy: The subject Psychology be treated as related subject.
- Journalism: A candidate shall be allowed to take up Honours in Journalism & Mass Communication if he/she has passed in English or Bengali.
Courses to be opted by the candidates
- For the B.A/B.Sc (Honours) course of studies, a candidate is required to choose his/her Honours subject and two elective subjects.
- For the B.A/B.Sc (General) course of studies, a candidate is required to choose three elective subjects.
- Candidates (both Honours and General) are required to choose one compulsory extra-curricular short term course (no extra fee payable) from the following options available: (i) Self defence (ii) Communicative English (iii) Photography (iv) Social Awareness (v) Creative Art / Recitation (vi) Yoga.
