DAMINI: Sports And Recreation Activities Under The Realm Of MKSSS

Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha, (MKSSS), has taken a lead in sports activity and Damini had come into existence in the year 2006-07. The Samstha insists each and every student to participate in games. Games improve their health and make them active.

Health Club

“Tejaswini Health Club” is one of the well known fitness health club giving all scientific fitness facilities, exclusively for women established by ‘Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha, (MKSSS), Pune located in Maharashtra. It is located in Baya Karve Hostel Complex, has state of the art equipment for ensuring physical fitness.

Bakery and Canteen

Sampada Bakery in Karvenagar Campus was established on 17th August, 1979. This was the first production unit in which the students of MKSSS can work and earn for their livelihood. Similarly, Suswad Canteen was established on 15th August, 2004. This is a service unit, where the students serve the visitors and other students of the institutes with delicious dishes and nutritious food and earn for their day to day expenses.

Medical Department

Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha (MKSSS), Pune has established a separate medical unit in its campus, rendering medical services in the form of primary health care; on 1st September 2004. This medical department is named after “Dr. Sunanda Paranjpe”, a renowned gynecologist – a well wisher and donor of MKSSS, Pune. She inspired and motivated the institution towards the aim of development of the students in each and every area. During her whole life she had intensely urged to offer the basic medical services to all the students in MKSSS, for improving their overall health. As an expression of gratitude and respect towards our well wishers, the medical department is named after her as “Dr. Sunanda Paranjpe Medical Department”.

Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha, (MKSSS), Pune

The 118-year-old parent body has been committed to “Empowerment of women through education”. The Institution has a century long history of dedicated work towards making women educated and self-reliant. MKSSS, Pune was established in 1896 by the great visionary and social worker Bharat Ratna Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve to provide shelter to destitute women.

On 14th June in the year 1896, in the village ‘Hingne’ near Pune city, Maharshi Karve started a “Home for Widows”, along with a school for Widows, so that they become educated and self-reliant. He fought throughout his life to make this happen. The “Home for Widows” was then named as ‘Hingne Stree Shikshan Samstha’ and the school was named as ‘Mahilashram High School’.

Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha, (MKSSS), Pune has diversified branches all over Maharashtra in India and about 25,000 girl students are learning in these institutions. Over the period of last 118 years, the Institution has grown like a banyan tree and at present, it is running 62 numbers of educational and other units. These units are located at Pune, Satara, Wai, Ratnagiri, Nagpur, Kamshet etc. All these units are meant only for girls or women.

Around 25,000 girl students are learning in Kindergarten, Pre-Primary, Primary, Secondary, Higher Secondary schools and Colleges. We have established Engineering, Architecture, Management, Nursing, Fashion Technology, Vocational Training Institute, Health Center etc. These branches strive to develop women into truly performing citizens in today’s globalization era. We also have hostel facilities for students and working women and old age home for senior citizens
