Library & Learning Resource
The Institution has a well equipped and fully automated centralized library.
The On line Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is used for the display of existing books. There is open access to the library which is fully automated with the LIBSOFT package. The LIBSOFT has modules for managing the library accessories, information retrieval, reservation, membership and statistics. It offers the facility of swiping for the library user statistics. The N-LIST programme of the INFLIBNET Centre of Vimala College Library provides access to more than 2100 e-journals and more than 51000 e-books. Besides, there are 1500 e-books in the library collection. Greenstone is used as a federated searching tool for articles. There is provision of ILL (Inter Library Loan Service) from other Institutions. Through the library website www.vimalalibrary.libsoft.org one can also access the Web OPAC. In house access to e-publications is limited to areas with internet access.
IT Infrastructure
Internet connection is made available to all Departments, Units and Cells in the College.
There is direct BSNL- Optic fibre high speed internet connection 8 MBPS. There are 2 IBM web servers.
The Office is completely automated and the staffs were given training by the Computer Science Department and experts from outside on how to use technology.
Admission, assessment, and all other matters related to administration are executed with the help of technology.
Residential facility
The hostel is situated in an area of 2.11 acres with a built up area of 60592 sq ft. Accommodation is provided for both staff and students who come from distant places. There are two hostels. The Vimala College hostel provides accommodation to students of the College and Divya hostel provides residence to the students and staff of neighbouring Colleges. It provides space for guests who come for attending seminars in other institutions.
Sports Facilities
Indoor Stadium and Sports Complex
The Institution is much acclaimed for the achievements made in sports and games and great effort is made to provide state of the art facility for the sports students. Students are admitted in the sports quota according to their performance in the respective fields. The College provides them rigorous training in the outdoor-indoor courts and stadiums. The indoor stadium has an area of 10608 sq ft. It has a 200m track, a handball court, a basketball court - indoor and outdoor, a high jump mat, judo mats and other items of weight training equipment. The infrastructure includes a Health Club and a Yoga Hall. The fitness centre containing modern fitness equipment like the treadmill, elliptix, multi gym and motorized cycle is also made accessible to the staff, students, and other women in the locality. A 50m swimming pool of international standard is under construction. The Institution ensures the participation of students in intra and inter-Institutional sports competitions and cultural activities.
Research Infrastructure
Laboratories: The Science laboratories are spacious with no crowding of experimental stations. They are well equipped and constant additions are made in accordance with the changing needs. At present there are 13 laboratories. There are separate P.G labs for the Physics, Chemistry, Zoology and Home Science Departments.
Infrastructure and Learning Resources
Comfortably removed from the hurry and buzz of the city, while at the same time positioned at a convenient proximity to the town, the College can boast of a calm and peaceful campus ideal for scholarly pursuit and creative or artistic endeavour.
Student Grievance Redressal Cell
The Student Grievance Redressal Cell is constituted of two senior teachers, student advisor, a legal advisor and a junior teacher.
The students are informed of such a support system on the very first day of admission by the coordinators of the Cell. They are given a briefing of its functioning and procedure. It is also mentioned in their Handbook.
Scholarships
The institution ensures that maximum number of students are benefiting from all the scholarships provided by the Central and State government and other national agencies. A nodal officer who is a full time faculty is given the responsibility to make the students aware about the various schemes and to provide all assistance to the students to avail the schemes. A considerable proportion of the students are benefited from the various scholarships. The college and benefactors have instituted several Scholarships in honor of retired Principals, Head of the Department and Members of the staff.
Extension Programmes
Extension Activities and Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR)
Education for societal progress is the very essence of Institutional vision. Elaborate efforts are made to serve the local community, society and the nation. There are several extension programmes initiated by the students, faculty, Departments, Institution, Cells and Units like the NSS, NCC, Jesus Youth, Alumnae, and so on. Individuals and Units engaged in such extension activities have been conferred awards and recognition.
Feedback Services
Student feedback on teaching and learning process, the quality of teachers, support services and infrastructure is an indicator of the performance of the institution at micro and macro levels. The college has evolved a meticulous feedback system that has been improved and perfected over time, and the collected data is subjected to an unbiased, systematic and scientific analysis. This is an important input for future guidance.

NSS
Vimala College Thrissur, a first grade women’s College under the CMC Management is affiliated to the University of Calicut. It was established in 1967 following bifurcation from St Mary’s College, Thrissur. It is a Christian College under the Management of the Nirmala Province, Thrissur, of the Congregation of Mother of Carmel (CMC) in the Roman Catholic Church. The College is under the religious jurisdiction of the Catholic Archbishop of Thrissur. True to the ideals and heritage handed over to the Congregation by her founder, Blessed Chavara Kuriakose Elias, the College aims at the “pursuit of intellectual and professional excellence, the total formation of the girls as much for their own enrichment as for the service of society and the nation in the spirit of Christ” (CMC Constitution No. 85).
Ever since its inception, the College has been in the forefront of higher education in the State. The College submitted itself to the First Accreditation in the year 2000 and was bestowed with Five Star status in 2001. The suggestions of the first NAAC committee provided the orientation, direction and impetus for quality sustenance and enhancement. An important initiative following the first accreditation was the constitution of the IQAC. The College opted for the 2nd cycle of Accreditation in the year 2008, and was subsequently reaccredited with the highest grade of A with a CGPA of 3.3. The suggestions of the second committee report provided the direction for the sustenance of excellence through the introduction of new programmes, integration of technology in the teaching learning process, inculcation of research culture, and initiatives that culminated in the enhancement of quality.
Vimala College is a Christian College under the Management of the Nirmala Province, Thrissur, Kerala of C.M.C. in the Roman Catholic Church. The College is under the religious jurisdiction of the Catholic Bishop of Thrissur. 'Vimala stands for the 'Immaculate Conception' her motto being "Veritas et Amor" - Truth and Love. True to the ideals and heritage handed over to the Congregation by her Founders. the college aims at the "pursuit of intellectual and professional excellence, the total formation of the girls as much for their own enrichment as for the service of society and the nation in spirit of Christ." The management maintains the unique tradition of recruiting the staff on the basis of scholastic excellence, competence and commitment to the profession.
