Vivekananda Satabarshiki Mahavidyalaya was established in the year 1964 in commemoration of birth centenary of Swami Vivekananda. It was the outcome of sincere effortd and active support- both moral and financial of some of the enlightened
forsighted local people. The avowed purpose was to cater to the need of higher education in the backword rural area of jhargram Sub-Division of erstwhile midnapore distric. Starting its journey with approximately 50 studens of art stream, 5 teaching and 2 non-teaching staff members in two rooms of the local high school, it now has its own Complex building in the 19 acres (approx) of land acquird on lease from the State Government and more than 1300 students of Arts, Science and Commerce streams, 25 teaching, 16 non-teaching staff members and 1 Librarion from integral parts of what is known as Vivekananda Satabarshiki Mahavidyalaya.
The College is situated at a central place in between Kharagpur and Jhargram Railway Station Sardiha on Kharagpur- Tatanagar Railway track amidst quiet natural surroundings and an boost of a healthy ambience conductive for healrhy body and mind. It has been providing on opportunity for higher education in Arts, Science and Commerce streams to the first generation learner of the extensive tribal belt of Paschim Medinipur district for such a long time. Some of our students have done remarkably well at the University exams, SSC. Exams and NET also. We feel proud of the fact that some of them are angaged as part-time lecturers in our college. We hope to continue this tradition with sincerity and confidence.
The college is presently affiliated to the Vidyasagar University ans has honours courses in 10 subjects. It is a co-educational college where students have a very cordial relationship with the members of the teaching and non-teaching staff members and are encouraged to cultivate the spirit of school harmony trough various functions organised by the college and the student union.
