Taki Government College had first opened its doors for the students on 15th September, 1950. The college has traversed a long way ever since. Located on the banks of the river ICHHAMATI, this prestigious college has acquired
a place of its own in constructing and defining the destiny of students down the years.
Surrounded by lush greenery the college is composed of a science and an arts building. There is also an annexe building for the Department of Geography. The college has witnessed pages of history unfolding itself as it stands as a proud repository of tradition, culture and heritage. Taki is well connected both by railways and by roadways. Nearest railway station from the College is Taki Road Station in Sealdah-Hasnabad section.
The full time professors of the college are appointed by the Government of West Bengal under West Bengal Educational Service according to the norms specified by the University Grants Commission. The teachers are transferred to different Govt. Colleges as per the rules of the W.B.E.S. The Govt. of West Bengal also appoints the non-teaching staffs of the college. A large number of part-time teachers are also engaged to take class in various subjects. Retired teachers are assigned to undertake teaching responsibilities on part-time basis based on the eligibility criteria at par with the whole time teachers against existing available posts.
The Higher Education Department headed by the Director of Public Instruction and Principal Secretary controls the administration of the college and frames all the policies and functional modalities of the college meant for the Principal to execute. The Governing Body is headed by the District Magistrate as the president.
