existence as the centre of learning on the auspicious day of 1st September 1995 to cater to the increasing craze for higher education in the post independence era. Affiliated to the University of North Bengal, this Mahavidyalaya being the sixth degree college in the district of Uttar Dinajpur, is located in an idyllic environment amongst rural surrounding having a natural landscape with evergreen, calm and quite atmosphere free from the din and bustle of the municipal crowd but within municipal area. Far from the madding crowd, the place is really congenial to be absorbed in sustained studies with rapt attention, Situated at Bhusamani, just 1.5 km. to the North East of Dalkhola Railway Station and within 500 mitres of N.H. 34, the Mahavidyalaya has in possession 3.88 acres of land enriching with potentiality for developing it into and ideal institution for higher studies.
Meanwhile this Mahavidyalaya has come into limelight for its performance and result, comparable to many star colleges under University of North Bengal. Within a very short span, the Mahavidyalaya has attained excellence & growth. In 2004 this Mahavidyalaya has received NATIONAL UDYOG EXCELLENCE AWARD presented by International Business Council, New Delhi. But it has miles to go.
SHREE AGRASEN MAHAVIDYALAYA was established on the First day of September 1995 with a view to open a gateway of higher education for local boys and girls, but the story did not end there and gradually it turned out to be distinguished landmark of higher education in this part of our country.
All credit of initiating the effort of establishing a Mahavidyalaya of higher education in this area goes to Late Subrata Mukherjee, a renowned Member of Parliament and an educationist who along with some local educationists approached the then Government of West Bengal in 1995 to establish a Degree College on the 3.88 acres of land. The Government of West Bengal accepted the proposal, acquired the vested land and proceeded with construction of the college. Nearest some Gram Panchayet and some capitalist persons donated for making a fund. The Agrasen Samity proposed the name of college and that so the college is named SHREE AGRASEN MAHAVIDYALAYA. It became a Government sponsored college and was recognized under section 2(f) and 12(b) of the UGC Act. SHREE AGRASEN MAHAVIDYALAYA started its journey with fifteen students and four guest teachers of nearby Islampur College. It affiliated to the University of North Bengal and at present going on under University of Gour Banga. It is sixth degree college in the district of Uttar Dinajpur. In 2004 this Mahavidyalaya has received NATIONAL UDYOG EXCELLENCE AWARD presented by International Business Council, New Delhi.
