Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad provides Junior Research Fellowship, IIT(ISM) JRF to the deserving and eligible candidates qualified through national level tests and thus providing ample opportunities for carrying out research leading to Ph.D. degree.

IIT(ISM) JRF is open to candidates, below the age of 30 years (35 years for women, PC, SC, ST & OB) as on the last date of online application [31.12.2016], who have obtained FIRST CLASS OR OGPA 7.0 and above (In case of class not mentioned) in their qualifying degree of relevant discipline of Science, Engineering and Management. The cut-off for those candidates applying in the Humanities disciplines (English/ Philosophy) is 55% marks or higher grade in their respective post-graduate degree. In order to encourage B.Tech candidates from IITs, applicants from IITs with CGPA/OGPA 8.50 and above will be allowed for direct interview in the IIT(ISM) JRF admissions. Age relaxation will be allowed for women and Reserved Category candidates with valid documents. The respective documents will be scrutinized prior to the interview and if found incorrect/insufficient the said candidature will be cancelled. Women / Physically Challenged (PC) / colour blind candidates may not be considered for field related or some specialized research areas. The medium of instruction, publication of research paper and reporting will be in English. Therefore, the scholars are required to possess adequate knowledge of English.

The total number of seats for the 2016-17 Phase-2 admission depends on the availability of fund and vacancy for the academic year 2016-17. The discipline-wise distribution of seats will be as per the requirement of respective departments. The Government of India reservation policy will be followed and the number of seats to each category is fixed at the institute level and not for each discipline.

Certain percentage of meritorious students pursuing postgraduate degree at IIT(ISM) will be considered for direct admission to IIT(ISM) JRF as per the rules and guidelines approved by competent authority.

The medium of instruction, publication of research paper and reporting will be in English. Therefore, the scholars are required to possess adequate knowledge of English.

Age

Age limit for various categories as on the last date of online application [31.12.2016] are:

For General Male Candidate	:	30 years
Others (Women, OB, PC, SC & ST)	:	35 years

Age relaxation as above will be allowed for candidates with valid documents. Gender

Female candidates are NOT ELIGIBLE for admission in Mining Engineering and Mining Machinery Engineering disciplines.

Educational Qualification

PhD in Chemical Engineering programme: The candidates should have acquired a Master of Technology (MTech) degree from a recognised university or institute.

PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences programme: Candidates should have obtained Master of Philosophy (M.Phil)/Master of Arts (M.A) / Master of Commerce (M.Com) / Master of Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent degree.

PhD in Management Studies programme: Candidates should have a postgraduate degree in Industrial Engineering and Management/Industrial Engineering / Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Civil Engineering or equivalent from a recognised university or institute.

The selection of the candidates will be based on GATE score card, NET rank, IIT(ISM) JRF Entrance Examination (JRFEE) and BTech from IITs in respective discipline.

Application Fees

The application fees for IIT(ISM) JRF. The application fee is to be paid online only by appropriate payment option given to the candidate while applying. Application fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances. No communication will be entertained in this regard.

Programme Fees

The fees to be paid at the time of admission for Ph.D. programmes. The fee should be paid by SEPARATE demand drafts drawn in favour of Registrar, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad, payable at Dhanbad as per the institute fee structure.
