Mrinalini Datta Mahavidyapith, a co-educational degree college, was established on March 5, 1964 by Birati Siksha Samsad to cater primarily to the students coming from lower middle class and poor families of Birati and its adjoining rural and semi urban areas.

Initially the college was affiliated to the University of Calcutta upto the session 2007-08 and there after came under the West Bengal State University (Barasat, North 24 Parganas). The Main Objective of the college was to provide quality higher education at afforedable expense and achieve academic excellence.
