The village Kandra has a rich heritage of Medieval Bengali Literature and culture. Kandra was a birth place of famous Vaishnava poet Jnanadas. The place has got religious interest too. However, the Kandra as well as the whole Ketugram P.S (mainly minority, SC, ST population dominated) of Burdwan district remains educationally backward, especially in terms of women education.
Urged by the strong feeling of kindly light of learning in the remotest backward areas of Burdwan and adjoining Birbhum and Murshidabad districts, the people wanted to establish a higher education centre in this region. There has been a ceaseless effort on the part of the local people to establish an Institute of Higher learning here for a long time and ultimately they got success with help of Sri Amar Chand Kundu, a famous social worker. Under the able leadership of local education loving people with the patronage of Sri Kundu, Kandra RadhaKanta Kundu Mahavidyalaya was founded on 16th, March 2001.
