Hiralal Mazumdar Memorial College for Women,Dakshineswar little known amid several premier institutes in an around Kolkata has emerged as a center of learning experience with a difference.It is a hub of emancipation for the underprivileged girls who flock to the campus from adjoining suburban and rural belts of Hoogly,Howrah and North 24 Parganas. The idea of imparting education to the women folk of the society was conceived nearly six decades ago. The road ahead was bumpy, strewned with challenges;yet our zeal to strive for a noble cause continued unabated----forbiden to stoop --unless we scale the lofty height of elevating the college atleast to state level. Adherence to the ideals of discipline,dedication and determination has remained the basic principles that guide us to the path perfection.
It works as vehical to ease the journey of our mission—to help students spread the wings of their desires and find respite from subdued, ignominous and abusive lives they are mostly subjected to.Our aim to educate ,empower and emancipate in compliance to the needs of the society reflects our devotion to make learning purposeful yet value based and add difference to lives of each admittants. Currently the college offers 17 major subjects and 22 general ones.We are keen on grooming students in application oriented,need based learning to improve their cognizance beyond the norms of classroom teaching. The college offers a general course in Urdu for students belonging to minority section; besides opportunity for capsule courses in Montessori training, Pharmaceutical Management, Agricultural Biotechnology, Computer Literacy, Communicative English etc are available .Students are engaged to research and field studies in both arts and science streams as part of pedagogic learning. Our collaboration with Sri Sarada Math Rasik Bhita, Dakshineswar, in different fields of job oriented learning and placement will definitely benefit our students in their attempts to go up in the social ladder.
A resourceful library equipped with technological facility in addition to seminar libraries attached to each department provides the required infrastructural facility,for the deemed academic pursuance.
A gymnasium for the fitness freak of Y genre,yoga sessions to improve concentration power, music sessions, counselling ,health screening, NSS and such other programs are conducted to promote an all inclusive growth of our students.
