In 1979 the Government of West Bengal established one Girl’s College in Suri , the Headquarter town of District of Bibhum with a view to impart education to younger girls .But in 1987 the college was converted into a co-educational Degree College. Birbhum Mahila Mahavidyalaya was renamed as Birbhum Mahavidyalaya.
This college is situated at Baruipara,one of the oldest localities in Suri, in a beautiful open land with natural environment in the North-eastern part of Suri. This Temple of Learning is being governed by the Rules and Regulations of the Department of Higher Education, Office of the D.P.I. , Government of West Bengal and the University of Burdwan with renowned nominated and elected in different categories following the rules framed by the Government and the Burdwan University.
