Bejoy Narayan Mahavidyalaya is a degree college of repute, located in the midst of the pleasant greenery in the village named Itachuna, in the district of Hooghly (West Bengal) some 56 kms. away from Howrah and 52 kms. away from Burdwan. The main campus of the college is on the southern side of Khanyan railway station on the Howrah-Burdwan Main Line.
The college, founded in 1950, was initially affiliated to the University of Calcutta. In 1957 it was granted degree courses in Science and Humanities, and in 1960 was affiliated afresh to the University of Burdwan. The institution has since grown all the way into a centre of excellence in terms of its academic performance and achievements. In March 2007 the college was evaluated by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council in all its academic and allied aspects and was declared as accredited at the B++ level (scoring 84%).
The academic courses are run here in two sections (Morning and Day) on a co-educational basis. There are thirteen (13) Honours subjects (viz. Bengali, English, Sanskrit, History, Philosophy, Economics, Political Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Nutrition) along with fifteen (15) general courses including Statistics and Geography for the students of the college. The college has got three (3) hostels for boys with food and lodging facility. One U. G. C. girls’ hostel located inside the college campus is near completion.
