Banipur Mahila Mahavidyalaya in Banipur was established in 1999 with the objective to provide higher education to women. The college made a humble beginning with four substantive lecturers and about hundred students with classes held in the morning at a Girl's High school in Habra. The new complex came up in 2003 at Banipur amidst the expansive lush greenery of nature far from the madding crowd. Banipur educational complex hosts a number of colleges - Post Graduate Training College for Physical Education and a Teacher's Training College, both having long and prestigious backgrounds. Banipur Mahila Mahavidyalaya is the only women's college in Habra area that is developing fast with a present roll strength of 700 students in the Arts stream.
The college has expanded structurally as the first storey has been constructed in 2015 and an Annex building is proposed in the coming year. The college at present offers Degree Course in Arts ( Honours and General stream ). There are 9 UG departments in the college and the college has a good reputation of an excellent academic environment. The earliest Honours Courses that were offered was in Education and Sociology, followed by Bengali, Political Science and English. At present the College has affiliation in 5 Honours subjects and very soon Honours in History will be offered to the students. A number of new subjects like Journalism and Geography will be introduced soon continuing with the tradition of expansion and development of women's higher education. Banipur Mahila College has a consistent record of good academic results with students from various departments securing first class marks. The College boasts of brilliant students who have joined in the capacity of Guest lecturers after passing out from the college and completing their Masters. The College has recently got affiliation under 12b of the UGC and preparing for NAAC accredition in the coming years.
