Balagarh Bijoy Krishna Mahavidyalaya is incepted as the undergraduate Degree College and the only higher learning institute in and around Balagarh Block situated at the east fringe of Hooghly District under the state of West Bengal. The institute was established in the year 1985 and is affiliated to the University of Burdwan,W.B. It is named after revered Late Bijoy Krishna Modak, the noted freedom fighter, renowned educationist and lifelong social activist. Indeed, late Bijoy Krishna Modak is the founding father of the College. The College is accredited by NAAC in the year 2007 and graded C++.Further the college is re-accredited by NAAC in the year 2016 and graded ‘C’ (very few points short of grade’B’).But, the college has improved a lot in overall standard of infrastructure in the year 2017 and 2018. IT-enabled services, a sense of students’ caring environment, development of health and hygiene, introduction of modern aids in teaching and learning and opening of new courses have uplifted the standard of college in recent years. In this changing atmosphere, the different wings of the Government of West Bengal have assured us to take initiative for development of this college in upcoming years.
The College is loated at Jirat, Hooghly within a distance of five minutes’ walk from the Jirat Railway Station of the Eastern Railway Division. It is situated by the road side of and connected with S.T.K.K Road (Saptagram-Tribeni-Kalna–Katwa Road/Assam Road/Kalna-Katwa Road) via G. T. Road a distance of about 22kms from Bandel, Hooghly towards north and about 25 kms from Kalna and Burdwan towards south. The college enjoys good road connectivity with, different places such as Mogra,Tribeni, Kuntighat, Guptipara, Somra, Kalna and Nabadwip -Dham. The bus-stop is very close to the college gate allows for enhanced connectivity. The Balagarh Rural Hospital is located very near to the college.The college is well connected with Ranaghat, Santipur,Chakdah and different places by water ways.
